What an awesome idea!!! This came from Laissezfaire, and previously from HGTV. Everyone uses cans, so this should be an easy idea for all teachers to make. You could even put contact paper around the cans to make them more colorful! Enjoy!

Wordle

If you have never used Wordle, it is a powerful tool.  You just type in any words and the generator places them in different spots.  The more a word is mentioned, the larger the type will be.  I have used this in all subjects.  It could be used for vocabulary in any subject, student's first names, etc.  The list could go on and on.  You are able to change colors, have only black and white, or print.  I usually just take a screen shot of mine to post to a blog or website.  Try it out and let me know how you used Wordle !

My Crate Seats

This is one of the crate seats I made this week.  I got the idea from Pinterest.com.  It took a few hours to make 6 of them. The more I did, the better I got.  They can be used as seats and for storage.  Here are some quick easy directions.

Materials:  crate, plywood (half inch thick), foam, fabric, adhesive spray, staples (8mm or half inch) and staple gun

Step 1:  Take your crate to Lowe's or Home Depot.  They will cut the plywood for you for free.  Measurements vary depending on crate size/shape.  You want the plywood to sit on the lip of the crate.  They can measure and cut to fit.

Step 2:  Measure and cut your foam (the cheapest I found was egg crate foam for a twin bed) to match the plywood.  I used scissors and they cut through the foam fine.

Step 3:  Spray the plywood with the adhesive spray.  Place the foam on it and press down.  Any hanging over, I cut off.

Step 4:  Lay out your fabric and place the foam/plywood on the fabric.  Measure and cut around leaving 2-3 inches extra to fold over to staple.  The corners you can fold like wrapping a present.  Pull the fabric tight so it is tight, then staple.  I used 5-6 staples on each side. 

Step 5:  Place it on the lip of your crate, and you are finished!

Welcome to Day 1!

Please bear with me as I learn about blogging and updating.  I hope to add fun and interesting teaching ideas to this site.  With a 6 yr old son, (soon to be 7), a husband, and 2 puppies (8 months old but 50 lbs if not more), I hope to find the time to update on a regular basis.  I do, however, need to read a 'how-to' on blogging.  Come back and see the progress I hope to make in the near future!!
